Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of the summer and prepare to embrace new challenges the fall may bring, we need to keep the finger on the pulse of our practice, and re-examine the level of our resolve. The beautiful lazy-days-of-summer can dry up the juices that keep things flowing, and leave us a bit less motivated to sustain the commitment to ongoing practice. But there is also the potential to enter the Fall feeling rested, rejuvenated, and curious. Whatever you feel at this point, about your practice, or about your life, contributes to the many ingredients that create the place from which you will take the next step. As a Sangha, we are here to support you as you take this step, and to encourage you to arouse Unconditional Great Determination through the highs and the lows.

Our fall schedule includes events that will help you ignite and fuel The Great Determination, as well as broaden and deepen your understanding of the Dharma. The fall Ango Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 17th, during our Zazenkai. The Head Trainee for this Ango will be Ricardo Mitsugen Petroni, and the theme will be "Humility". To help us unpack this monumental theme, we will study together Bodhidharma's teaching. The group study will consist of three meetings at the dojo on the following dates: Sunday, October 1st; Sunday, November 5th; and Sunday, December 3rd. The plan is to begin each study meeting at 10:15 AM and to end at 11:45 AM. There will be no Teisho on these dates. The book we will use for the study is: "The Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma" translated by Red Pine. It's available as an e-book or hard copy, please purchase it ahead of time.

More details will follow, and the Ango commitment form will be emailed by next week.

Please review the following list of events and make arrangements to be available. The Sesshin registration is still open, but you need to contact me as soon as you can about reserving a place, in case you have not yet done so.
